High Security Locks in Mimico Beach

You jiggle the key a little and the old deadbolt opens even when the cut does not look quite right. If your worn key can do that, you wonder what a stranger with the right tools could do.

In plain words

Upgrading to high security rarely means new doors or a big disruption. Many high security cylinders retrofit into the existing deadbolt or lever, so the door preparation stays as it is and only the cylinder and keys change. A heavier deadbolt uses the same bore as the old one in most cases. The strike and hinge screws are swapped for long ones that bite into the framing. The visible difference afterwards is small; the practical difference is that the door resists the tools and tricks that defeat ordinary hardware, and that nobody can copy your key without you knowing.

Sound familiar?

The restricted keys you bought years ago are no longer restricted; the locksmith mentioned the patent has run out and blanks are sold openly. Your key control quietly stopped being control.

How the visit goes

  1. 1

    What the door is protecting

The assessment starts with a question rather than a tape measure: what is behind this door, and what has made you think about it now? A front door on a family home, a stockroom with prescription drugs and a server closet in an office carry different risks and deserve different levels of hardware. The locksmith also asks who has keys today and how sure you are of that count. Those answers decide whether the right answer is a graded deadbolt with a controlled key, a laboratory-rated cylinder in a heavy lock body, or a small keyed system across several doors. Spending goes where the risk actually sits.

  2. 2

    Keying several doors sensibly

When more than one door is upgraded, the locksmith plans the keying before pinning anything. A home usually wants every exterior door on one key. A business often wants staff keys that open the front and their own area, and one manager key that opens everything, arranged as a small master system on the same patented keyway. Cylinders are pinned on the bench, labelled and fitted door by door, and each key is checked against the doors it should open and, just as carefully, the doors it should not. The written key schedule is part of the handover.

  3. 3

A door that shuts like a vault door, quietly

With a heavy bolt, a deep strike and long screws in the frame, the door feels different when you lock it: the bolt travels its full length and seats with a solid, quiet stop. That feel is your ongoing check. If the bolt ever starts to drag or you need to lift the door to lock it, the door or hinges have moved with the seasons and a small adjustment restores it. Wood doors swell in humid summers and shrink in dry winters; a glance at the hinge screws and the strike each spring and autumn keeps everything aligned.

What affects the quote

  1. 1

    Commercial lock bodies

Heavy-duty deadbolts, mortise locks, narrow-stile deadlocks and cylinder guards for storefront and warehouse doors are heavier hardware than residential deadbolts and priced as such.

  2. 2

    Mortise and older doors

An existing mortise pocket, a thick slab door or an unusual backset can mean a specific cylinder or an adapted preparation, which takes longer than a standard bore.

  3. 3

    Master keying

Arranging staff keys, area keys and a manager key on one system takes bench time to plan and pin, and the more levels you want, the more careful that planning is.

High Security Locks: questions

Advice · (289) 805-5275

Should I upgrade the front door only, or every door?

Start with the doors that matter and the ones that are weakest, which are often not the same. Front doors usually carry the sturdiest hardware already; the side door by the driveway, the door from the garage and the basement walkout often carry the lightest locks and get the least attention. The assessment walks the whole perimeter with you so the upgrade goes where entry is most likely, and the remaining doors can join the same key later.

What information helps before the visit?

A photo of each door's lock from inside and outside, the type of door, whether there is glass nearby and roughly how many keys are in circulation. For a business, a sketch of the doors and who needs to reach each area saves a great deal of time. Mention any door that sticks, has been forced or has a closer or push bar on it. With that, the locksmith arrives with the right formats and a plan to discuss.

Why does the locksmith care so much about the strike plate?

Because that is where a kicked door fails. The bolt is strong, but it sits in a pocket in the jamb held by a thin plate and short screws, and a boot splits the wood around it. A reinforced strike or box strike fastened with three-inch screws into the wall framing spreads the blow along the frame. It is the least visible part of the upgrade and often the one that does the most.

What the census means at the door

58%

Older homes. About 58% of homes in Toronto were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

Where housing is mostly older, many entries still have only a knob lock and no deadbolt at all. Adding one is a straightforward job on a solid wood door, and it is the single upgrade that changes most for a house of this kind.

23%

Single-detached houses make up about 23% of homes in Toronto (2021 Census).

In buildings, the suite door often has a closer and a heavy frame, and the deadbolt sits in a metal or metal-clad door. A locksmith fitting or rekeying one brings the tools and cylinders that suit that construction rather than a wooden house door.
